Girl Scouts Provide Shower Kits

Girl Scouts from Troop 61078 dropped off several bags of toiletry kits for the Hope's Corner Shower Program.  Hope's Corner is blessed to have several groups step up to provide shower kits of toiletries, socks and underwear.  These kits are used by homeless individuals who enjoy the free showers provided by Hope's Corner.  The showers and toiletry kits are one way Hope's Corner lets people know they are a valued part of our community.  Click here to see how you can donate a kit.

Connecting People with Bicycles

A bicycle can mean the difference between having a job and not having a job. The Silicon Valley Bicycle Exchange partners with Hope's Corner to provide bicycles to homeless individuals who would otherwise have a difficult time getting around. "Joe" pictured below was very happy to receive a bike this month and let us know that it would enable him to keep his job.  If you have a bicycle to donate or want to volunteer to learn how to fix bikes, check out the Silicon Valley Bicycle Exchange.

Girl Scouts Promote Healthy Eating at Hope's Corner

Two Girl Scouts working on their Sow What! Journey (a type of badge) prepared and served zucchini lasagna for Hope's Corner on November 21 as well as distributing recipe cards.  The girls had learned about the importance of healthy eating and wanted to share a healthier alternative to traditional lasagna with our Hope's Corner guests.  Thank you Anna and Janeth!

Toys Needed for Hope's Corner Children's Party

Hope's Corner will hold our fourth annual Hope's Corner Children's Party on December 19. Children who attend the Hope's Corner breakfast and children from the Day Worker Center will be entertained by the Starfire/Mosaic youth group from Los Altos United Methodist Church, including photos with Santa, while the parents are invited to shop in the "store" created from donated toys.  But we need donations of toys to make this happen! See the flyer below for details.

Hope's Corner Showers are a Blessing!

Since late August, Hope's Corner has made new showers available by appointment to unhoused people.  Thanks to volunteers from the Open Circle group, people can sign up for an appointment on Saturday mornings, are provided a fresh towel, bath mat and toiletries, and are able to have a nice, hot shower.  Some people have commented that it was the first shower they had in weeks. The showers were installed as part of the two new accessible restrooms that were added with Hope's Corner Capital Funds. This project brings Hope's Corner one step closer to being able to construct a new kitchen -- and provides a wonderful service to unhoused people in the process.
